Your comments and questions
Amanda I need to travel from Bank to London City Airport. I will be by myself and will have 2 pieces of luggage. Do I have to negotiate stairs or escalators at Bank to get to the DLR platform or will I be able to use just a lift?
Staff Hi Amanda. Unfortunately Bank is the worst station to get the DLR because its one of the few DLR stations that is actually underground, rather than above ground, and it's a long walk to the platform. There are lots of entrances into the station but the one on Cornhill only has 16+6 steps into the ticket hall. After that you'll have another 3 escalators, or 1 escalator plus a lift.
Amanda Thanks for that information, it was very helpful. As I have a shoulder injury Bank would not be suitable for me. Is there another station not too far away that would be suitable? I'm staying at a hotel in Bayswater so I was planning on getting a taxi to the DLR station
Staff Tower gateway is the next DLR station along, which is a very short distance from the Tower of London (just over the road). That one has got a lift, so it should be easier for you.
Amanda Thanks very much for that advice - it has been most helpful.
Vipul How long is it to walk changing platforms between Central and Northern lines at Bank station
Staff Hi Vipul. It's about 120 metres plus two flights of stairs
Pudge Does anyone know what exit to take at the bank tube for the Royal Exchange
Staff Cornhill north, Cornhill south, Lombard Street and Walbrook are the closest (there are loads of exits), but anyone will do. The Royal Exchange is easy to find whichever exit you come out of. It's on a big junction, and you'll just be standing on a different corner of the junction
HH Is there car parking at DLR bank station? thanks
Staff Hi HH. No. It's an underground station in the center of a very busy junction. There is nowhere to park.
John How long does it take to walk from Bank to Monument? On the tube map it looks like they are both connected like its just a change of platform but I've been told it's a long way to walk
Staff Hi John. I always think it's quicker to walk between the two stations above ground, because then it's no more than five minutes. If you do it below ground then by the time you've negotiated all the extra stairs, escalators and underground tunnels it takes closer to eight minutes. It's definitely not just a change of platform -- you're basically walking between the two stations underground
MRP Best way to Waterloo when the Waterloo & City line is closed
Staff Hi MrP. Bank and Waterloo are both on the northern line but they're on different loops, so you can't get a direct train between the two. So I would get the northern line to London Bridge, and then change onto the Jubilee line for Waterloo.
Mr T Stirling Why could I not access Bank Station from the Central line on Tues 2 Aug after 22.00 the gate at the spiral staircase was locked so I had to go via Tottenham Court Road, there were no signs or any information My journey was severely delayed
Staff Hi Mr Stirling. The best people to ask for an answer to that are TFL themselves - tfl.gov.uk/help-and-contact/contact-us-about-tube-and-rail
Jackie Can I access the northern line from bank tube on a Saturday?
Staff Hi Jackie. Sure, it's usually just the Waterloo and City line that shuts at the weekend
Jon Is Bank tube closed on a Sunday?
Staff Just the waterloo and city line
Ann Is the station opened on a Saturday ?
Staff Hi Ann. yes, it’s open every day
Peter When do the last trains run through Bank on the Waterloo and City line today?
Staff Its 00,26 today - city-guide.london/transport/train-journey.php?from=bank&to=waterloo
Kevan Wilding Bank station in Cannon street is now fully accessible to the Northern line, and partly to the central line. The new station is brilliant.
Kevan Wilding Bank station now has three ticket halls, six lifts, ten platforms and two 100 metre moving walkways. The Northern lines and DLR are now very accessible with lifts and escalators. Central line is not accessible by a lift and is only accessible via escalators and moving walkways. Use new Cannon street entrance.
JANET CRIBB Any chance of getting anywhere with a wheelchair?
Simon Hi. How many steps are there at Bank from the southbound Northern line platform to street level?
Sheena Can you travel from Waterloo to Bank on Sunday 24 December please?
Staff Hi Sheena. The Waterloo & City line never runs on Sunday anyway, and the other tube lines usually finish earlier than normal on Christmas Eve. it slows down about 7 PM and will probably end at 9 PM
Sheena Thanks for your answer I had a feeling there was no service on Sunday.
Andrea Starke We are going to London City Airport from Clapham North. We struggle to carry our suitcases. The suggested route is via Northern Line to Bank Street then DLR to London City Airport. We know about the 21 steps at Clapham North and will get a young friend to carry our suitcases down to the platform. We have wheelie suitcases which we can use on the escalator. Is Bank Street station viable to change from Northern Line to DLR without steps i.e. escalator or lifts. We are quite happy to catch a lift escalator to the ticket hall from the Northern Line and then catch another escalator/lift to the DLT station. Please advise.
Staff Hi Andrea. You'd have to use some stairs. It's also a long walk to the DLR platform at Bank (very long). You haven't got many decent alternatives though. You could change onto the Jubilee line at London Bridge, and then change again onto the DLR at Canning Town. They should all be lifts and escalators, but no stairs
