Peak and off-peak journey times
For Oyster and contactless off-peak is outside the hours of 6.30 AM-9.30 AM and 4 PM-7 PM (Mon-Fri). For travelcards off-peak is any time after 9.30 AM (Mon-Fri). Weekends and public holidays are always classed as off-peak. Note: Between the 8th March and 31st May 2024 TFL are running a trial called ‘Off-Peak Friday Fares’, where Fridays will be classed as off-peak all day.
The train fare is based on what time your journey begins. It doesn’t matter what time your journey ends.

Analia Barra I am traveling to London next month. Because of my luggage, are there lifts in Covent Garden underground station from platform to street level? Thank you for your help!
Staff Not quite. There is a lift, but you will also have to use a flight of 19 stairs as well. You can't avoid them.
Andy Lale How many steps does the spiral staircase have if I want to avoid using the lift?
Staff The spiral staircase has 174 steps (and there's a separate flight of 19 steps to get to them)
Marcia We are travelling on the Piccadilly line from Covent Garden and we need to go to Trafalgar Square. What is the nearest station please?
Staff Hi Marcia, if it was me I would definitely just walk it, because it's only about 10 mins. The closest station is Charing Cross, but you'd have to change at Leicester Square for that, which would take longer. And if you went to Leicester Square and walked the rest then that would take longer as well
Pam I want to buy a weekly travelcard to use in zone 1-2. Can I buy this card at the Covent garden tube station? Then I want to take the West Midlands train to Northampton (round trip). Can I use this travelcard for the trip? Or will I need to pay for the West Midlands train trip and how do I do that? Thanks!
Staff Hi Pam. You'll be able to buy a weekly travelcard from the ticket machine at Covent Garden, yes, but you can't use it all the way to Northampton because that's nowhere near London (zone 1-2 covers central London). You'll need to buy a completely separate ticket from a website like nationalrail.co.uk. Trains to Northampton leave from Euston station
YTK Hi. Wife and I doing tube covent garden to kings cross with our 5 year old. Read on here don't pay for under 11s is this correct? and do I just carry her through barrier or do we need to get a pass for her?
Staff Hi Ytk. That is correct, yes. They don't need a ticket. Just walk them through the gate when you go through yourself. If you use the extra wide gate for buggies and wheelchairs then you'll have plenty of space
