Before Dorothy came along with her ruby-red slippers and turned their world upside down, the land of Oz was home to two young witches: the beautiful Glinda and the green skinned Elphaba.

Glinda was the popular kid at Shiz University, whilst Elphaba was totally misunderstood (being green probably didn't help), but they quickly struck up a friendship and enjoyed lots of adventures together.

The show explores these early years before their decisive meeting with the wonderful wizard. You'll witness the events that shaped their destinies... how Glinda’s desire for popularity sees her seduced by power... how Elphaba is content to remain true to herself... and how they ultimately became The Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West before their fateful meeting with Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road.

Wizard of Oz fans will love the ingenious plot

If you've already seen The Wizard of Oz and are familiar with L Frank Baum's beloved characters then you'll enjoy Wicked's ingenious plot. (In fact, if you haven't already seen it then we definitely recommend watching the old movie before you go, so you can understand all the plot points and in-jokes.)

One of the West End's longest-running musicals

With its sensational soundtrack, memorable sets, and exciting technical wizardry -- featuring flying monkeys, levitating broomsticks and even a smoke-breathing dragon! -- Wicked has been casting its spell over the capital for more than 17 years.

As the 11th longest-running show in West End history it has played to over 10 million people, picking up over 100 major international awards along the way including a coveted Grammy, two Olivier Awards and three Tony Awards.

Your comments and questions

Maggie I thought this was going to like the Wizard of Oz but it's not really like that at all - it's only towards the end that they start doing things that you recognise from the Wizard of Oz. The sets are pretty good, the story was still good, and the acting was good, and we had a good time, but they were quite bland tunes and I can't remember a single one of them
