Based on Disney's Oscar-winning movie The Lion King, the show follows the story of the young cub Simba as he turns from a wide-eyed youngster into the King of the Pridelands.

The mighty Lion King on top of Pride Rock

When his mighty father is betrayed by his power-hungry brother Scar, the young Simba is forced to flee into the Serengeti Plains where he meets Timon and Pumbaa.

With the help of his new friends, and his newfound courage fuelled by his father's wisdom, Simba returns to free his people from Scar's tyranny and take his place at the top of Pride Rock.

Based on Disney's Oscar-winning movie

The Lion King became an instant classic when it was released in 1994, picking up two Oscars and a Golden Globe for 'Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy)' -- only the second-ever animation to take home that prestigious prize.

The success continued when Julie Taymor transferred it to the Broadway stage, quickly picking up another Tony Award and eight Olivier nominations.

Award-winning puppetry and special effects

The show's ingenious use of large puppets, wonderfully colourful sets and special effects brings the African animals to life.

Giant giraffes strut across the stage, graceful gazelles leap into the air, and beautiful birds swoop up and down the aisles, transporting the audience into the heart of the Serengeti.

Songs by Elton John and Tim Rice

Elton John's songs from the film all make an appearance -- including the Oscar-winning Can You Feel The Love Tonight.

Your comments and questions

SHolmes I loved this show so much and everything was fantastic, from the costumes and dances to the acting and singing. It is a really exciting show and you know it from the moment all the animals charge down the aisles beside you up onto the stage, like a jungle stampede! My daughter literally jumped out of her skin because the actors don't just have animal costumes on, like you would imagine, with their faces where the animal faces would be, but they actually have huge theatrical giant heads - a bit hard to explain, but it works! Such a wonderful show

Blaine What is best walking route from Covent Garden station to the Lyceum?

Staff I would walk down James street and then straight through the middle of the piazza. Come out the other side and go left down Tavistock Court and Tavistock Street, into Wellington Street. It only takes about 10 mins. But if you want a proper walk (half hour walk, to see a few more sights) then go down Long Acre instead and keep going till you get to Leicester Square. Leave it via Irving Street and walk to Trafalgar Square, then go along the Strand till you get to the Lyceum.
