Portobello Road is probably the most famous antiques market in the country, attracting visitors from all over the world for its unrivalled collection of goods.

On any normal Saturday around 100,000 will turn up to enjoy the hustle, bustle and busy energy of the packed-out market.

You can usually find items from a few quid each to proper antiques worth many thousands of pounds.

The famous antiques market only operates on Saturdays, but you can enjoy a normal street market between Monday and Friday (food, clothes, etc). Most of the stalls set up between 8 AM and 9 AM (9 AM to 10 AM during winter) and close between 4 and 5 PM. We recommend getting there between 10 AM and 1 PM for the best experience.

The stalls begin where Chepstow Villas crosses Portobello Road, and end half-a-mile down the road at Elgin Crescent.

The road is also full of very colourful shopfronts (it reminds us a little bit of Camden). In fact, you might want to try Camden Market as well, especially Stables Market.

DaveD Good if you know which part to visit because a lot of the items are marked up because all the tourists go, and lots of it is aimed at them. But if you keep going north then its more like a normal market, with cheap good quality stuff like clothes and DVDs and music. Bit busy though because of all the millions of tourists. I prefer to go to Camden
