World War II might have ended 75 years ago, but more than a million British soldiers have lived and served in Germany since 1945. This exhibition will share some of their stories, and follow their change from conquerors and occupiers to allies and friends.
Following the end of the war the British army was called upon to help rebuild their devastated nation. It then provided a modicum of protection during the Cold War, and later used their bases to deploy troops to conflicts around the world.
The National Army Museum will follow the lives of these soldiers over the past 75 years, telling everyday tales of beer, bratwurst and family life, set against accounts of espionage and the rigours of military training.
