Tate Modern is putting on a career-spanning survey of one of the most pivotal figures in modern art.
From the moment he arrived in the French capital as an ambitious young painter in his twenties, eager to make his mark in metropolitan Paris, the history of painting was never to be the same again. Cezanne's still lifes and landscapes give licence to generations of artists to break the rule book.
Featuring many works that will be on show in the UK for the very first time, the exhibition will focus on the many tensions and contradictions in his work, exploring his struggle between seeking official recognition and relentlessly pursuing his own unique language.
You'll witness an artist wrestling with what it means to be a painter, while remaining deeply sceptical about the world he lived in.
