Tate Britain will be exploring the work of artist John Singer Sargent.

Sargent was famous for his portrait paintings, and the 60 artworks on display in this exhibition will reveal how he almost worked like a stylist to create the image of his sitters.

His innovative use of costumes was central to his artwork, and his daring sartorial choices allowed him to express their identity and personality.

He regularly chose their outfits and manipulated their clothing himself, tightening a heavy coat around a man to emphasise his figure, or letting a dress strap slip sensuously off a woman's shoulder.
