Platform stairs, lifts and escalators at Euston

The London Overground at Euston tube station has step-free access from the street to the platform, but there may be a step up or gap to the train. The Northern and Victoria lines are not wheelchair accessible

Station entrance – You can use an escalator between the entrance and the booking hall. If you want to avoid the escalator then you can use four flights of stairs (3 steps down +2x17 steps down +8 steps down). After that you can use an escalator down to the Victoria line and Bank branch of the Northern line platforms, or an escalator plus two flights of stairs to the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line (14 steps down +13 steps down)

Station exit – You can use an escalator from the Victoria line and Bank branch of the Northern line platforms to the booking hall, or an escalator plus two flights of stairs from the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line (13 steps up +14 steps up). After that you can use another escalator to the exit. If you want to avoid this escalator then you can use four flights of stairs (8 steps up +2x17 steps up +3 steps up)

Changing train platforms – Changing between the Northern northbond platform and the Victoria northbound platform is on the level. Changing between the Northern southbound platform via London Bridge, and the Victoria southbound platform, is also on the level. But you must use stairs for all other changes

Your comments and questions

Tracey My French-speaking daughter-in-law is coming to London on Eurostar from Lille. She then needs to get from Euston to Waterloo for onward travel. Is she obliged to buy an Oyster card for this single journey, or can she buy a ticket at Euston?

Staff She can buy a single ticket at the station if she wants, either from a self-service machine or a manned window (they have manned windows in the national rail bit upstairs, but not in the underground bit downstairs). Cash fares are more expensive than Oyster fares, but if it's just a one-off journey then it wouldn't be worth getting an Oyster card because you have to pay a deposit on top.

Tracey Is there an information desk at Euston station where she can buy a visitors Oyster card?

Staff No. You can't buy a visitor Oyster card anywhere in central London, only a normal blue Oyster card. You have to get them from your arrival airport, or order them online beforehand and have it delivered to your home address. But Visitor Oyster cards are basically the same as blue Oyster cards anyway.

Trev I am travelling from Euston to Waterloo, it seems there are two branches of the Northern Line, how do you know which train to catch and which platform to use?

Staff If you're going to Waterloo then you need to look for a sign which says 'Southbound, Charing Cross loop'. The other one (the wrong one) will say 'Southbound, Bank loop'. If you look on a tube map then you'll see that one loop goes past Charing Cross and the other goes past Bank.

Joanna What platform do I need from Euston to Edgware?

Staff Look for the one that says "Northern line, northbound". But make sure you get a train that's heading towards Edgware, as some northbound trains head towards High Barnet or Mill Hill East instead (it will tell you where it's going on the LCD board on the platform)

Kristin Is it possible to take the circle line from Euston to Westminster? Thank you

Staff Not from Euston, but you can do it from Euston Square. It's a bit of a roundabout route though - 13 stops in total. But at least you don't have to change trains. If it was me I would just get the northern line from Euston to Charing Cross, and then walk 10 mins from Trafalgar Square to Westminster down Whitehall.

Kimmy I've booked a train ticket from London Euston to London Waterloo, can I get a train instead of a tube? (I'm a bit scared of the tube!)

Staff Hi Kimmy, they are both National Rail stations, but unfortunately there's no overground line between. You can only get the tube. Or you can get the 168 bus

Teresa What platform on the northern line do I need to get back to Waterloo from Euston?

Staff HI Teresa. You need the southbound platform. But you need to look for a train on the "Charing Cross loop", because the ones on the "Bank loop" don't go to Waterloo

Judith We are arriving into Euston station and need to get to Chessington North, will a Visitor Oyster card cover our train journey as well as the tube journey?

Staff Hi Judith. It depends how much credit you've got on the card, but you can certainly use it between Euston and Chessington North. Have a look at the zone 1-6 fare above, because that's how much it will cost. Whether it covers your train journey into Euston as well, I don't know, because it depends where you're coming from.

Clare Hi, me and my partner are off to London on Sat, arriving into Euston, but staying at an hotel in Old Street. We have since noticed that there is a station nearer our hotel, could we stay on train, or do we need to get off? Thanks in advance

Staff Hi Clare. Without seeing your ticket it's impossible to say. But if you're arriving into Euston on a National Rail train (overground train), then no. Because Old Street is an underground station. You'd have to change trains.

Kit Hello, I need to get from London Euston to Charing Cross to catch a connecting train. I have 50 minutes to get from Euston to Charing Cross and I have a toddler and buggy with me so I can't do tube as I'll get lost and escalators are a nightmare. So how easy is it to get bus from Euston to Charing Cross and what number bus do I indeed? I'm really worried about missing connection or getting lost! Thank you in advance

Staff Hi Kit. It's not just one bus, unfortunately. You'll have to get either the 59 or 68 to Aldwych, and then the 6, 9, 13 or 15 to Charing Cross. It will probably take about 35-40 minutes in total, so it will be very close. You might be safer braving the tube, because the northern line goes straight to Charing Cross - but be aware that there are actually two different northern line trains from Euston. You need to catch the 'Charing Cross loop' train. If you catch the 'Bank loop' train then it won't stop at Charing Cross.

Kit Oh no way! I've booked my ticket now and I've only got an hour. I'll have to try a cab maybe I'm just so worried about getting the wrong tube as I am completely unfamiliar with them.

Marcia I am a retired lady traveling with a well-behaved but shy 1-year old medium size cockerpoo. I will need to use the underground from Euston to Waterloo. I have two concerns can anybody help. Where I can take the dog for a wee, and how to make the journey with dog the easier

Staff Hi Marcia. There's a big area outside Euston station with a bit of grass and trees, but of course you'll have to have a plastic bag handy to clear up any mess it makes, because you can get fined for that these days. You are allowed to take dogs on the underground but the rules say you definitely have carry it on the escalators. You will definitely have to go down one flight of stairs at Euston to get to the Northern line platform. So that might be a problem if you have some luggage as well, but there's no way around it unfortunately.

Micallef How much of the journey from London Euston station to London Liverpool Street station is actually underground when travelling between the two. I am travelling with someone who doesn't like the underground.

Staff Hi Micallef. The whole journey is underground. You could catch the 205 bus from Euston to Liverpool Street but it will take longer though, about 35 mins

Katie Is the northern line a tube? Will this be under ground from Euston to Camden? Also from London Euston, which platform do I go to? Thanks

Staff Hi Katie. Yes, the northern line is a tube line. Euston to Camden will be all underground. You need to look for the 'northern northbound' platform. Some trains will be heading towards High Barnet, some towards Mill Hill East, and some towards Edgware, but it doesn't matter which one you get because they all stop at Camden Town.

Cleaver I haven't used London transport for many years. Can someone please tell me if the zone cost advertised is a single trip only. I'm staying in euston but travelling to great portland street back to euston. Next day will be euston to kings cross. Thank you

Staff Hi Cleaver. The fares are for single journeys. They don't have return fares on the underground, you just pay the same price as two singles. Those journeys are extremely short on the ground, by the way, and it will be quicker to walk from Euston to Kings Cross than get a train - it's about a 5 min walk. Euston to Great Portland Street is a bit longer, about a 15 min walk. And it's impossible to get lost as well because you'll just walking in a straight line up and down the Euston Road

Wilkinson I arrive at Euston railway station and need to get to Heathrow. Can I use tube without stairs?

Staff Hii Wilkinson. Assuming that youre all right with escalators then you could get the victoria line to Green Park and change onto the piccadiily line there. Its impossible without escalators because you definitely need to use one at euston

Me I’m going to Victoria from Euston. How do I go about doing it?

Staff Hi Me. You can go direct on the Victoria line - city-guide.london/transport/train-journey.php?from=euston&to=victoria

valdemar Do the ticket machines take cash ?

Staff Hi Valdemar. Not all of them. if you look at the top of the machine some will say card payments only, and some will say cash & card payments

Janet Hi. I need to get to Euston station from Waterloo via the Tube. When arriving at Euston overground station, does the tube arrive directly under the station or nearby. I will be a bit tight for time with little margin for error. Thanks

Staff Hi Janet. there are stairs or escalators up from the underground bit into the main booking hall (where all the shops are)

Simon Hi. I’m changing trains at Euston from Victoria line southbound to Northern line southbound on London Bridge branch. Is the connection level access?

Staff Hi Simon. Yes, that change should be level access

Joanna I am traveling from Liverpool lime station to London Euston on Friday, March 29th, Leaving Liverpool around 2:00. The website says Euston is closed on the 29th. Does this mean the train from Liverpool is not running. If so, How do I get back to London from Liverpool

Staff Hi Joanna. Where are you seeing that the station is closed? As far as we are aware, the only planned works on that day are with the escalators down to the underground platforms. But there is a lot of building work going on at Euston at the moment
