Peak and off-peak journey times

For Oyster and contactless off-peak is outside the hours of 6.30 AM-9.30 AM and 4 PM-7 PM (Mon-Fri). For travelcards off-peak is any time after 9.30 AM (Mon-Fri). Weekends and public holidays are always classed as off-peak. Note: Between the 8th March and 31st May 2024 TFL are running a trial called ‘Off-Peak Friday Fares’, where Fridays will be classed as off-peak all day.

The tube fare is based on what time your journey begins. It doesn’t matter what time your journey ends.

Platform stairs, lifts and escalators at Moorgate

Moorgate tube station is not wheelchair accessible

Station entrance – The Moorfields westside entrance and the booking hall are on the level, but you must use three flights of stairs from all the other entrances (8 steps down +9 steps down +8 steps down from Moorfields eastside and Moorgate westside, or 13 steps down +6 steps down +10 steps down from Moorgate eastside). After that you must use an escalator plus one flight of stairs to the Northern line platforms (20 steps down), or five flights of stairs to the westbound Circle/​H&C /​Metropolitan platforms (14 steps down +17 steps down +8 steps up +9 steps up +10 steps up), but the eastbound Circle eastbound/​H&C/​Metropolitan platforms are on the level. If you came from the Moorfields westside entrance then you will have an extra three flights of stairs to the platforms (7 steps down +16 steps down +7 steps down)

Station exit – You must use an escalator plus one flight of stairs from the Northern line platforms to the booking hall (20 steps up), or five flights of stairs from the westbound Circle/​H&C /​Metropolitan platforms (10 steps down +9 steps down +8 steps down +14 steps up +17 steps up), but the eastbound Circle eastbound/​H&C/​Metropolitan platforms are on the level. If you came from the Moorfields westside entrance then you will have an extra three flights of stairs to the platforms (7 steps down +16 steps down +7 steps down). After that you will have another three flights of stairs to the exits (7 steps up +16 steps up +7 steps up to Moorfields westside, or 8 steps up +9 steps up +8 steps up to Moorfields eastside and Moorgate westside, or 10 steps up +6 steps up +13 steps up to Moorgate eastside)

Changing train platforms – You must use an escalator when changing between the Circle/​Metropolitan/​H&C eastbound platforms and the Northern line. You must use stairs for all other platform changes

Staff Hi Molly. No, you'll have to use a mixture of stairs and escalators depending on which entrance you use, and which platform you want. They are all described above

Kathy Clauss Moorgate : how many stairs to northern line when escalator is not working ?? Did it today and seems like lots.

Staff Hi Kathy. Depending on which entrance you used there could be 20, 45 or 49, plus however many there were for the broken escalator (we don't have that number)
