This walking tour will teach you some interesting history about the world's oldest underground transport system, by visiting some of the oldest and newest tube stations.
As you travel the network your expert guide will share facts and trivia that you’re unlikely to find in a guidebook, giving you an intimate glimpse of the city that will leave you with a completely different perspective.
Designed with history buffs in mind, the tour begins at the Baker Street station where your guide will explain how the Victorians managed to build it before advances in technology.
After that they'll move onto Oxford Circus station and Green Park where you'll learn about the famous Down Street station. This was originally located between Dover Street (now named Green Park) and Hyde Park Corner, but was forced to close in 1932 due to a lack of passengers.
Your guide will continue to share stories about all the disused stations that have been left abandoned underground whilst you move onto Piccadilly Circus and Embankment, which was built in the 19th-century to reclaim marshy land by the river.
The tour will end at Westminster station where you'll learn some interesting history about the steam-operated District Railway (now called the District line).
Note: Train fares are not included. You will need to come with your own travelcard (zones 1–2), contactless card or topped-up Oyster card. Check out our train fares page for the prices.
