Tate Modern will be taking a look at the work of visual activist Zanele Muholi.

The exhibition will include over 260 photographs spanning the entire breadth of their career.

Muholi has been documenting the lives of South Africa's Black lesbian, gay, trans, queer and intersex communities from the early 2000's, capturing moments of love and intimacy as well as intense images and traumatic events as they found themselves a target for violence and prejudice.

Faces & Phases shows the participants looking directly into the camera, challenging the viewer to hold their gaze. The images are accompanied by testimonies from the community of people who often risk their lives trying to live as authentically as possible in the face of oppression and discrimination.
