The Wallace Collection will be putting on a major new exhibition which explores the life of the great Sikh leader Ranjit Singh.

Following a period of anarchy in the early 19th century Ranjit Singh managed to conquer the Punjab -- an area encompassing today's Pakistan -- and established the Sikh Empire as the undisputed Maharaja.

His reign led to a golden age for the arts, the army and trade, and the exhibition will feature over 100 stunning artworks, jewellery and weapons from his court, courtiers and family.

Highlights will include items actually owned by the Maharaja and Maharani Jind Kaur - the most famous of his thirty wives.
