The Royal Academy of Arts will be taking a look at the groundbreaking art made in Ukraine from the turn of the century up to the 1930s.
Ukraine's modernist movement grew through the upheaval of the First World War, their fight for independence, and the establishment of Soviet Ukraine. Art, literature and theatre all flourished during this period of bold experimentation, and the exhibition will highlight the wide range of styles and cultural identities that existed.
With over 70 works on display, from oil paintings and sketches to collage and theatre design, it promises to be the most comprehensive UK exhibition ever about modern art in Ukraine, and will include artwork by the likes of Kazymyr Malevych, Alexandra Exter, El Lissitzky, Oleksandr Bohomazov and Mykhailo Boichuk.
