The National Portrait Gallery will be putting on a major study of how the Black figure is represented in contemporary art.

The exhibition will look at Black figures in Western art history, but also examine their absence – and examine how the story of representation is told through these works, illuminating the richness and complexity of Black life.

On display will be a range of artists from across the African diaspora including Michael Armitage, Lubaina Himid, Kerry James Marshall, Toyin Ojih Odutola and Amy Sherald.
