Your comments and questions

Lauren10 Hello, I will be on a 10 hour layover in London in three weeks. Is it possible to get to Piccadilly Circus and back in 5 hours? If so, what is the best route to take? Thanks!

Staff Hi Lauren, you can get the Piccadilly line all the way from Heathrow to Piccadilly Circus. It takes about 45 minutes each way, so you should have a few hours to look around. But are you sure they will let you out of the airport? You might need a visa or something, depending on where you're flying from

Iroro What ticket do I need to get from Heathrow terminal 3 to London Euston train station

Staff You'll need one that covers zones 1-6

TBO95 I will be going from Heathrow terminals 1-3 to Westminster. What ticket will I need to buy to for a ticket to last me all day between zones 1 and 6?

Staff You can either get a 1-day travelcard or a pay-as-you-go Oyster card. The prices are above, but you'll also have to pay a £5 deposit for a brand-new Oyster card if you don't already have one

Susieq Can I buy a tube ticket in advance?

Staff Assuming you mean a single journey on the underground, then no. You can only buy those on the day. But you can order an Oyster card or travelcard in advance and have it delivered to your house - city-guide.london/transport/visitor-oyster-cards.php

Nev Can you use a zone 1-2 travelcard for heathrow to canary wharf

Staff Hi Nev. Heathrow is in zone 6, so you'll need a zone 1-6 travelcard

Annie I plan to take the Piccadilly from Heathrow to Paddington Station. I understand that I will need to change train at Gloucester Road. Could I leave the station at Gloucester Road, then return at a later time to catch the circle line to Paddington ?

Staff Hi Annie. No, once you go through the barriers and exit the station then that's the end of the journey as far as the computer is concerned. If you re-enter the same station again then you'll have to pay a new fare (unless you have a travelcard of course, because you can make as many journeys as you like with those)

Per Would someone please know about the tube journey from Heathrow to Hammersmith, how long roughly is it underground, are there some overground parts? I'm travelling with an extremely claustrophobic person who hates the underground but it seems the most straight forward route. Many thanks in advance

Staff Hi Per. The Heathrow stations and Hatton Cross are underground because it has to pass underneath the airport itself. Once you get to Hounslow West then it's overground all the way to Hammersmith. (Barons Court is the last station that's overground on the Piccadilly line. Then it's all underground through the centre of London.)

Wim Hi, I'll be landing in Heathrow airport in two days, and I wanted to know if I can buy a Visitor Oyster card once there, or should I plan to buy a normal Oyster card as I can't buy them online. Many thanks

Staff Hi Wim. You can only buy the normal Oyster cards at Heathrow (the blue ones). You can't buy Visitor Oyster cards in central London. But they are basically the same thing anyway. Have a read of city-guide.london/transport/visitor-oyster-cards.php and it explains a few minor differences

Miley Hi Craig. Hubby and I will be flying into Heathrow and staying in Leicester Square for 4 nights. I'm planning to get us each an Oyster card since we really don't know how many train/bus/tube trips we'll be taking over the 4 days. What I am unclear on is: Can that Oyster card be used from Heathrow to Leicester Sqr. Or should we just purchase a single ticket for that trip into London? Thanks for your input

Staff Hi Miley. If you get a pay-as-you-go Oyster card (rather than putting a travelcard onto your Oyster card) then yes, that's no problem. You can use your Oyster card on the Piccadilly line. The maximum you'll pay that day is the 'daily cap' for zones 1-6. The maximum you'll pay for all the other days is the daily cap for zones 1 or 2 (depending on where you go).

Joycemui We are flying into London a day before we board our cruise ship. We would like to spend the day touring London. Can we store luggage overnight at Heathrow in Terminal 3?

Staff Hi Joycemui. You can do. there's a company called Excess Baggage who have something in terminal 3. If you visit their site you can ask for a quote (the price changes depending on the number and size of bags, etc) - excess-baggage.com

Sue My aussie mobile phone will not work in UK and I will need to phone my son from Heathrow to tell him what train I will be getting. I am arriving at terminal 2, will I be able to buy a pay as you go SIM there to use in London?

Staff Hi Sue. Sure. You can view a map of the shops in terminal 2 on this page: heathrowexpress.com/visitor-information/heathrow-airport-information/terminal-maps/terminal-2#/ You should be able to get one from WH Smith.

Sue Thanks for your help.

Cam What is the best way to get from Heathrow Airport to Central London (Camden Town and then Westminster Borough). Family of 4 with at least 4 bags. Thanks

Staff The cheapest way is by tube but that will take about 70 mins to Camden. The Heathrow Express is quicker into central London, but it only takes you as far as Paddington. So you'll still have to get another tube from there. Probably not worth it. A taxi could be anything from £50 to £100 depending on the time of day and how long it takes to get there. You can fit five people in a taxi, so four people plus luggage should fit inside it okay, unless you've got some really bulky bags.

Andrzej I am going to go from Heathrow Airport Term 3 to St James tube station. I know I have to take two underground trains: Picadilly line then District line. My question is do I have to buy two separate single tickets or the one is enough for both trains?

Staff Hi Andrzej. Assuming that you're changing onto the District line at South Kensington, you only have to buy one ticket for the whole journey. You don't have to pass through any barriers when changing trains at South Kensington. It would only count as two journeys if you actually went through the barriers and re-entered them again.

Al Hi how does the lift (on request only) from platforms to booking hall work? Can anybody make the request?

Staff Hi Al. It looks like TFL have updated the info and the lifts are no longer showing as on request. So you can just use them like normal. But if you did need assistance the easiest way of doing it is to press the button on one of those circular 'Help points' and talk to the person who answers. You can also request assistance in advance if you have needs - tfl.gov.uk/transport-accessibility/help-from-staff

Cathy Hi I'm at St Paul's 1.10 am and my flight departs from Heathrow T2 at 6.40 am What is the quickest route Thanks

Staff Hi Cathy. At the time of night you're best of getting a taxi

Marie Neuberger Is there assistance with suitcase for elderly passenger? Also taking 2 trains to get to Southwark from Terminal 3. We arrive at12:30. How long does it take to get through customs on the average and what is the fare from Heathrow to Southmark on 2 trains?

Staff Hi Marie. The fares for zone 1-6 (Heathrow to Southwark) are shown in the table at the top. The actual price will depend on how you choose to pay - cash, oyster or contactless. You can't book assistance on the underground in advance. They have something called a 'Turn up and go service', which basically means you have to ask a member of the TFL staff when you arrive. They will help you get to the correct platform, but you will remain responsible for your luggage - tfl.gov.uk/transport-accessibility/help-from-staff

Chen What is the easy way to get to Mansion House Station from Heathrow airport on Monday Oct 16 at 11 am?

Staff Hi Chen. You can get the Piccadilly line onto the District line at Gloucester Road - city-guide.london/transport/train-journey.php?from=heathrow-terminals-1-2-3&to=mansion-house
