Featuring everyone from Turner to Ellen Gallagher, Joshua Reynolds to Yinka Shonibare, and John Singleton Copley to Hew Locke, this powerful new exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts will see the past and present collide.
Over 100 major works from 1768 to the present day will come together to explore art's role in shaping the narrative of empire, enslavement, abolition and colonialism, and explore the themes of migration, exchange, identity and belonging.
Contemporary artists such as Sonia Boyce, Frank Bowling, John Akomfrah and Isaac Julien will be put on display alongside famous works from the last 250 years, creating connections across time between paintings, photographs, sculptures, drawings and prints.
